Are Tummy Tuck and Liposuction Similar Procedures?

Tummy tuck—also called abdominoplasty and, liposuction is procedures that aim to make your stomach appear flatter, tighter, and smaller. Although the goal of these procedures is the same, they are two different surgical techniques in the base. These differences may be recovery time, risks, and the actual procedure.

Usually liposuction for those people who are looking to remove small fat deposits. On the other hand tummy tuck for people who wants to remove excess fat from the abdomen, and also, who wants to remove excess skin. A tummy tuck can be used to stretch out the skin that deformed due to pregnancy and significant shifts in people’s weight. Also, a tummy tuck may involve bringing the sit-up muscles back together if they have been stretched or separated by pregnancy.

Tummy tuck and liposuction are performed by a plastic surgeon. Thus, these procedures can require incision and anesthesia.

In liposuction, surgeons will apply a local anesthetic to your midsection, and then the surgeon will make a small incision—usually 1 to 3mm. The last step that will the surgeon do is removing your excess fat under your skin. Liposuction may take several sessions to end with your desired result.

On the other hand, a tummy tuck surgeons will use general anesthesia to put you asleep. Then, they will make an incision at the bottom of the skin that covers your abdominal wall. Liposuction is about just removing fat under your skin however, a tummy tuck may include not only fat removing but also stretching skin. Liposuction process may take several sessions, on the other hand, a tummy tuck is done in one session.
